Acts of Mercy Missions in October
Immanuel Lutheran Church supports three “Acts of Mercy” Missions during the month of October, including St. Michael’s Scholarship Fund, Lutheran World Relief School Kits and Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.
St. Michael Lutheran School (SMLS) is the only Lutheran School in the Greater Kalamazoo area. SMLS offers Christ-centered, quality academic programs for preschool through eighth grade. In addition, it offers computer, art, gym, music, band, and Spanish classes along with after-school enrichment and athletic programs. Each program is open to all. In fact, 70% of our current student population is other than St. Michael members.
Tuition assistance for qualifying low income families is available via the SMLS scholarship fund. Your donations help to provide a quality Christ-centered education to students from all backgrounds. St. Michael Lutheran School and Christ for Kids Preschool/Childcare Center is a ministry in partnership with parents to nurture each child to attain their God-given abilities by providing a quality education and growing their faith through God’s Word, creating Mighty Messengers for Christ.
St. Michael Lutheran School and Christ for Kids Preschool/Childcare Center is a ministry dedicated to Education with Christ at the Heart.
We began collecting school supplies in late August and September to fill the Lutheran World Relief (LWR) School Kits, another mission we support in October. Members of our congregation make about 100 sturdy drawstring backpack-style cloth bags and donated school supplies are packed into each bag. In the places where LWR works, these supplies are more than many families can afford to purchase for themselves. They can mean the difference between getting an education or not for a child.
Each month, Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes requests food donations for a specified category of non-perishable boxed or canned foods. We collect these contributions and deliver them to the donation center.
In addition, we have a special drive for extra food contributions in conjunction with our annual Octoberfest celebration. Bring your food either to Oktoberfest, or to church any time before October 15th. Food can be placed in the plastic bin in the Garden (Lower) Level of the church where we hang our coats.
